Our Perfect 3-Night Swakop Itinerary ✨
Swakopmund is one of those places where 3 nights never feels like enough, but with the right plan, you can experience the desert, the ocean, and the food scene without rushing or overthinking a thing. Here’s how we’d spend the perfect 3 nights in town.
🌅 Day 1: Arrival & Easy Evening
After arriving in Swakopmund, check into your Airbnb, get settled, and freshen up for a relaxing sunset dinner.
When you're ready, head out to one of the most scenic spots in Swakop: The Tug or The Jetty.
Both are located on Swakopmund's Jetty and either one is perfect for catching a sunset on your first night in town. If you want a bit fancier setting, head to the Jetty. If chill is more your vibe, The Tug is your spot! Most of the time, you won't need reservations for either one, unless it is during the holidays.

🏜️ Day 2: Adventure Day
This is your big day, so let's make the most of it!
If there’s one thing you shouldn’t miss, it’s Sandwich Harbour. It’s the most popular tour destination in town and for good reason: towering dunes meeting the Atlantic in one of the most surreal landscapes in Namibia. On this tour, you get picked up right from your Airbnb, travel through the salt pans of Walvis Bay, cruise along rugged beaches and take a thrilling 4x4 drive through the massive sand dunes to epic lookout points. For the more adventurous, you can level up your tour by combining it with kayaking with the seal colony or dune boarding for the full desert-meets-ocean experience.

🍽️ Day 2 Evening: Wind Down
After a day in the dunes, nothing beats a sundowner at Bar Zonder Naam (BZN), a favourite hangout for locals right downtown. Once the sun dips, grab a pizza at Western Saloon across the street and call it a night.
🌞 Day 3: Walk the Town
Ease into the day with breakfast at Wild Rocket - a personal favourite for breakfast and lunch. Afterwards, take a stroll around the downtown streets. Check out the shops, old German architecture, local markets and the Beach (The Mole).
🌊 Sunset in the Dunes
After your day of exploring the town, my absolute favourite thing to do is take some drinks to the dunes and watch the sun set over the ocean.
Here's a link to a spot where you can park and climb up for the perfect view (Sundowner Spot). My recommendation is to pick up a bottle of Omavi Omeya Gin, some tonics, and head into the dunes for a classic Swakopmund sundowner. There’s nothing quite like watching the sun drop over the ocean with a drink in hand.

And with that, your stay has come to an end and it is time to hit the road again.

✨ Final local tips
- Swakopmund is generally a safe place to walk around, park and enjoy without looking over your shoulder. Even still, use general precautions such as not leaving valuables in your car unattended and don't flash around expensive gear or money.
- The tap water in town is safe to drink although some prefer the taste of bottled water.
- Swakopmund is a tourist hub and people here are happy to help so don't feel shy to ask if you need.
